Application Form & Instructions

You don't have to be a straight-A honor student to apply, but you do have to be a student who enjoys learning, has the desire to succeed, wants to go to college, and cares about the future of our world. Your hand-written letter, first-semester report card with attendance and tardy report, last year's TAKS scores, and teacher recommendations have equal value in the scoring of your application. So, even if you don't have the best grades or the highest test scores, you can still qualify by doing well in the other areas.

Spaces are limited, so be sure that your application is submitted or postmarked by February 5, 2010 to:

Application Instructions

Please use this list to make sure you've included all six components to complete your application:

  1. Fill out the application form. Please make sure that this information is legible and accurate. If you are a current AISD student, include your AISD student number that can be found on your report card. Your parent or guardian must sign this form.
  2. Write a letter of application. This is a handwritten letter by you that describes your academic interests and why you want to attend the Ann Richards School. If you have a hero/heroine, you can explain how that person has inspired you. This letter should be at least 2 pages, front side only. Address your letter to Ms. Jeanne Goka, Principal.
  3. Include your TAKS scores. These are your TAKS scores from last year. See your current teacher for copies of your scores.
  4. Include your report card. Be sure to turn in your recent report card with the first semester of grades, along with your attendance and tardy record.
  5. Obtain TWO teacher recommendations. Teacher recommendation forms are included in the Application Packet. You may turn in these forms, or your teachers may prefer to mail them directly to Ms. Goka. Your two recommendations must be provided from teachers who instructed you this year in the following areas: mathematics, science, social studies, or English. If you have only one teacher in these areas, please indicate this on the form or you can ask your elective teacher to complete a form.
  6. Enclose a self-addressed, stamped business envelope. We will use this envelope to mail admission notification letters in March of each year. (Envelope size: No. 10 white business envelope; 4-1/8" x 9-1/2".)
